Once again our Mash Team have come together to take on the Belfast City Marathon on Monday 1st May 2017 in aid of Mencap! Our team is made up of Mash Direct employees Tim Acheson, Christine Cousins, Cathy Reavy, Jonny McCallion and Gary Armstrong. As both Lance and Tracy Hamilton sit on the Mencap Northern Ireland board, the team will be raising money for this excellent cause.

As their big run is only 2 weeks away, we took the opportunity to interview two of the Mash Team Tim Acheson and Christine Cousins… to get their perspective on everything from training to running tunes!

Tim Acheson -

Is this your first time doing the Belfast City Marathon relay?

Yes, I’m not much of a runner! I play a lot of rugby… so hopefully that will help me to get through my leg of the Marathon.

What is your favourite running song?

Spotify Running Playlist.

What is your ideal pre & post running meal?

Pre Run - Scrambled eggs on toast, around two hours beforehand.

Post Run - Steak & chips!

What training have you been doing for the marathon relay?

Like a true professional I plan to start this week… Fingers crossed running around a rugby pitch will help!

What tip would you give to new runners?

Just keep running?

Christine Cousins -

Is this your first time doing the Belfast City Marathon relay?

Yes It is my first relay as I am fairly new to running.

What is your favourite running song?

I don’t listen to music when I run, I find it is a very good time for contemplative thought.

What is your ideal pre & post running meal?

I can’t eat too much before a run so usually a banana or some nuts. After I like to have poached eggs on toast.

What training have you been doing for the marathon relay?

I am following the couch to 10k programme currently, however a three week gap for holidays has set me back a little bit.

What tip would you give to new runners?

Stick with it. It is tough to begin with, however it is a great way to relieve stress and get fitter.
