Don't turn your nose up at turnips!

Did you know that the humble turnip has been grown for thousands of years? Or that the Greeks and Romans thought so very highly of it that they developed several new varieties?

Some call them Swedes, while our Scottish friends refer to them as neeps, but whatever you have christened them we think it’s about time this underappreciated root vegetable was celebrated.

We particularly enjoyed the vintage collection of turnip snaps posted by Modern Farmer showing off the best of the turnips of yesteryear.  Click here to see them!
