Champ Eating Championship at Garden Gourmet
Champ Eating Championship at Garden Gourmet,
Botanic Gardens, Belfast.
We think the photo says it all!! Hundreds
of contestants and onlookers took part in the first competition
of its kind; we were inundated with entries, everyone with their
own special technique to be in the running for the coveted first
prize. In the end the winner, (who you can spot in this photo with
the eye mask and bright blue hat!) Andrew Thompson, Aka Captain
Clean Up ate 464grams!!
Andrew, very kindly donated the prize money to charity. To all the
hopefuls. there’s always next year, just need to get in some
more practise!!

Daily Telegraph Magazine – 16th September
For those of you who missed the article
by Carolyn Hunt in the Food and Home section of The Daily Telegraph
Magazine- here it is:

And to Carolyn Hunt a huge big thank you
from all at Mash Direct.
Some of you may be interested to know that the quotation Carolyn
refers to is taken from ‘Heartburn’, Norah Ephron’s
first novel. Ephron - acclaimed screenwriter, director, film producer
and novelist, garnered much press over "Heartburn" (about
the break-up of her second marriage to journalist Carl Bernstein).
(‘Sleepless in Seattle’, ‘When Harry met Sally’
and ‘Silkwood’ are some of her most famous films.)
We also love the quote at the end of the
book:
“In the end, I always want potatoes. Mashed
potatoes. Nothing like mashed potatoes when you’re feeling
blue. Nothing like getting into bed with a bowl of hot mashed potatoes
already loaded with butter, and methodically adding a thin cold
slice of butter to every forkful. The problem with mashed potatoes,
though, is that they require almost as much hard work as crisp potatoes,
and when you’re feeling blue the last thing you feel like
is hard work. Of course, you can always get someone to make the
mashed potatoes for you, but let’s face it: the reason you’re
blue is that there isn’t anyone to make them for you. As a
result, most people do not have nearly enough mashed potatoes in
their lives, and when they do, it’s almost always at the wrong
time.”
Mash Direct to the rescue!!
New Relationship
And now moving on from reflections of potatoes
and love, well not totally, as we’ve just started a new relationship!!
Yes, with Tesco (NI), from today, we are now available on the shelves
of Tesco. Thanks to all at Tesco support office for making the dream
a reality!!

And remember with Tesco - “Every little
helps”
There will be some PR surrounding our launch in
Tesco – so, be sure to watch this space.
New Products
If you remember in the last issue we mentioned
we’d launched two new products onto the market – Red
Cabbage & Beetroot and Green Cabbage. If you haven’t already
tried them, you better grab some fast; we can barely keep up with
the demand!! It’s flying off the shelves faster than we can
replenish them! They are larger portion sizes and they are in our
new oval shaped packs. They are available currently in Spar
NI (Introductory promotion of 50p Off), Mace and lots of
independent shops, delis and butcher shops like McGee’s in
Forestside shopping centre.
Soon, to be available in all leading supermarkets.
That’s it for this issue, looking forward to the next one
